Samsung rolls out May 2023 security update for several Galaxy devices in the US

Samsung has a large catalog of Galaxy devices which are available in different segments, from entry-level to flagship devices. The most common thing in these devices is the software update, which is timely updated according to the eligibility of the devices. So keeping the promise, the company has already released May 2023 update to many devices worldwide, but if we talk about the US, the case is different; many users are still waiting for the May 2023 update.

In the US, many flagship device users are waiting for the latest update; this is all happening due to carrier dependency, which means devices are directly dependent on affiliated carriers. However, the update is gradually expanding on all carriers.

At present, these Galaxy devices, including Galaxy S22, Galaxy S20, Galaxy Z Fold 2, Galaxy Z Flip 5G, and Galaxy A23, are getting May 2023 update in the US; let us know about them in detail.

Galaxy S22 and Galaxy A23

Samsung Galaxy S22 and Galaxy A23 are getting the update on the Verizon network. It is worth noticing that Galaxy S22 series devices have already received the update on some other carriers as well, such as  T-Mobile, MetroPCS, Dish Wireless, and US Cellular network. Currently, the Verizon based Carrier locked Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22+, and Galaxy S22 Ultra are getting the update with the version number S901USQS2CWE1, S906USQS2CWE1, and S908USQS2CWE1, respectively. The Galaxy A23 is getting the update with version number A236VSQS2BWE1.

Galaxy Z Fold 2 and Galaxy Z Flip 5G

Samsung never disappoints its customers and carefully updates all its eligible Galaxy devices even after three years. Now the company is rolling out May 2023 security update to two older foldable devices, including Galaxy Z Fold 2 and Galaxy Flip 5G. Both of their devices are getting the update on both Carrier locked and carrier-unlocked variants. 

The Galaxy Z Fold 2 and Galaxy Z Flip 5G locked variant is getting the update on two network carriers, including T-Mobile and Sprint, with firmware version number F916USQS2JWE4 and F707USQS4HWE1, respectively. And unlocked variant of these devices is getting the update with version numbers ( for Galaxy Z Fold 2) F916U1UES2JWE3 and (for Galaxy Z Flip 5G) F707U1UES4HWE1.

Meanwhile, unlocked variants of these devices are getting the update in several networks, including T-Mobile, Verizon, Sprint, Xfinity Mobile, MetroPCS, Spectrum Mobile, AT&T, Bluegrass Cellular, Cellular South US, Cricket Wireless, C-Spire, Dish Wireless, and Tracfone.

Galaxy S20 Series

Galaxy S20 is a now three-year-old device; Samsung has already completed the major update rollout session for the device. Currently, the device is only eligible for minor updates, which will be available in the form of security patches, so continuing the streak now, it is receiving the May 2023 security update. The update is now rolling out for both Carrier locked and unlocked variants. 

The locked Galaxy S20, Galaxy S20+, and Galaxy S20 Ultra are getting the update on two networks, including T-Mobile and US Cellular, with these firmware version numbers G981USQS4HWE1, G986USQS4HWE1, and G988USQS4HWE1 respectively.

While unlocked variants of Galaxy S20, Galaxy S20+, and Galaxy S20 Ultra are getting the update with these version numbers G981U1UES4HWD5, G986U1UES4HWD5, and G988U1UES4HWD5 respectively.

The unlocked variant of the Galaxy S20 series is getting the update on several carriers, including T-Mobile, Verizon, Xfinity Mobile, MetroPCS, Spectrum Mobile, AT&T, Bluegrass Cellular, Cellular South US, Cricket Wireless, C-Spire, Dish Wireless, Sprint, Tracfone.

How to download May 2023 security patch on Galaxy smartphones

Whenever the update is available for your device, you will receive a notification; just tap on it ( it will redirect you to the software menu). Then you just have to “Download now,” and it will be started downloading and get installed automatically.

In case you don’t receive the notification yet or you have missed it, then you can also check manually whether the update is available on your device or not. To do so, just follow the below steps

  1. Go to the system settings
  2. Then tap on the software update menu
  3. Now tap on Download and Install option 
  4. Wait until the search finished
  5. If it shows a new update available 
  6. Then tap on download now.

Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 Series getting April 2024 update in the US on Verizon

Samsung has rolled out the April 2024 security patch update for the Galaxy Tab S7 series. It has already rolled out the update in several countries, mainly Europe and Latin America. Now the device is starting to get the update in the US.

Verizon Galaxy Tab S7 and Tab S7 Plus Receiving April 2024 Update in the USA

Notably, the Galaxy Tab S7 and Galaxy Tab S7+ are receiving the update on the Verizon network with the firmware version numbers T878USQS7DXD1 and T978USQS7DXD1, respectively. With the latest update, the device will have proper consistency in terms of performance and security.

For your information, the April 2024 update will bring you more than 40 fixes, of which Google has added 27 that enhance the Android OS functionalities. Along with this, Samsung has also added 17 more fixes that exclusively improve the functioning of the Galaxy devices.

Furthermore, the update could bring some new changes that internally improve the device’s functioning and provide enhancements for performance and stability. Surprisingly! One UI 6.1 update arrived for Galaxy A23 5G before flagships in the US

Earlier this month, Samsung officially announced that it will provide one UI 6.1 update to the 2022 flagship device in May. But now the company has surprisingly started rolling out the update to one of the midrange Galaxy A23 devices.

The Verizon network has spotted the One UI 6.1 update for the Galaxy A23, with the firmware version number A236VSQU3CXD3. It has also brought the latest security update in the form of an April 2024 security patch. With the latest update, there are several new features introduced that will add some new features and enhancements.

In detail, the latest update for the Galaxy A23 5G introduces a new battery protection feature that allows users to manage the application’s battery charging to prevent battery damage. There are some new changes in the clock customization, gallery, and Samsung account sections. It is important to note that there is no AI feature arriving in this update.

The update will also enable call continuity, mid-conversation device switching, and seamless communication across any device, such as a Galaxy table, computer, or watch, all connected to the same Samsung account. A small but important addition is a new toggle in the mobile network that allows users to turn off 5G if they don’t need to connect to the update.

If you are using the locked version of the Galaxy A23 on the Verizon network, then you can now update it to the latest version simply by going to the system settings and tapping on the software update. If it shows a new update available, then tap on the download button.

The latest beta update is now live for all the eligible Pixel devices; more specifically, it has started rolling out to the Pixel 6 or nearby devices. The latest update is coming with the firmware version number AP31.240322.027. The latest update is coming with the same April 2024 security patch that has already arrived with previous updates. To check for the new version, you just need to go to the system settings,  select software update, touch the system update, and tap the check for updates button. You may have to tap the button more than once to trigger the download, but if all this fails, then you can also manually install the update via official factory image files.
