Magic Knight Rayearth Reboot Confirms Two-Cour Run Ahead of October Premiere

Magic Knight Rayearth is getting a full-length return. Kadokawa’s KyoMAF event on September 20 revealed a new trailer for the anime reboot confirming a two-cour, 24-episode run, along with theme song artists and additional cast members ahead of its October 7 premiere.

The reboot arrives 31 years after CLAMP’s original 1994 series ended, timed to the manga’s 30th anniversary and marking the franchise’s first new television anime since the OVA aired in 1997.

What the New Trailer Confirmed

Toaka will perform the opening theme, “Otome no Tsurugi” (“A Young Lady’s Sword”), while Yurina Kawaguchi handles the ending theme, “Hoshiakari” (“Starlight”). The trailer also introduced additional cast members joining the production, though full character-to-actor pairings weren’t detailed alongside the reveal.

Confirming a two-cour run puts the reboot on track to cover significantly more of CLAMP’s original story than a single-cour adaptation would allow. The first Magic Knight Rayearth manga arc ran for three volumes in Nakayoshi magazine between 1993 and 1995, with a sequel arc following shortly after, giving the anime a substantial amount of source material to draw from across 24 episodes.

Cast, Staff, and Where to Watch

Yui Miura is directing the series at E&H Production, the studio behind Ninja Kamui and Bullet/Bullet, with Kadokawa and TMS Entertainment overseeing production. Shigeru Murakoshi is writing the scripts, Satomi Watabe is handling character designs, and the score comes from a three-composer team of Yuki Kajiura, Takumi Ozawa, and Shiho Terada.

The story follows three eighth-grade girls, Hikaru Shidou, Umi Ryuuzaki, and Fuu Hououji, who are pulled from a school trip to Tokyo Tower into the fantasy world of Cephiro. There, Princess Emeraude names them the Magic Knights and tasks them with saving her world using magical weapons and mecha-style armor.

Magic Knight Rayearth premieres October 7 on TV Asahi’s ANN programming block in Japan. Crunchyroll has confirmed a worldwide simulcast with an English dub as part of its Fall 2026 lineup, while Ani-One Asia is streaming the series in Southeast Asia.

Fans wanting a refresher before the reboot lands also have options. Netflix added all 49 episodes of the original 1994 series in January 2026, giving newcomers a way to catch up on Hikaru, Umi, and Fuu’s first adventure in Cephiro before the new take arrives.
