Samsung’s New Rival: Honor Gearing Up To Debut Its First Foldable Flip Phone

Honor is a new rival to Samsung in the town since Honor is gearing up to expand its foldable area by announcing next-generation foldable flip phones by the end of 2024.

This is being speculated by the statement of Honor’s CEO, he said to CNBC, marking the Chinese technology firm’s first foray into the vertical-folding style of smartphone, which has been well known by brands such as Samsung and Matorola.

Samsung is one of the toughest competitors in the foldable industry, and now Honor is gearing up to give strong competition to the Korean giants. The step to debut a flip-foldable is in line with Honor’s push into the premium end of the market, where it’s looking to challenge companies such as Samsung and Apple.

Honor’s CEO stated that “this year we are preparing for the flip phone launch—nnow that we are internally in the final stage.”

However, Honor is not new in the food label industry. The most recent one is Honor Magic V2, which took the floor last year. The entry into the flip-foldable will expose Honor to a new price level. The flip design of phones, for instance, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5, is often priced cheaper as compared to the horizontal design of gadgets.

As per the reports from Counterpoint Research, sales metrics for foldable smartphones appear to rise 40% year-on-year to 22 million units this year. But it is also said that demands for the flip foldable are probably dropping because the expectations of high pricing for the flip form factor have been difficult.

Back in 2020, Honor, a spin-off from Huawei as a result of US sanctions, tried to find a way to thrive as an individual company. Noticeably similar to most device makers at MWC, Honor also pitched the probability of AI. At the event, the brand introduced an AI-powered feature on its Magic 6 Pro handset that can track the eyes of users. Apart from this, the brand has also shown off a demo of a chatbot built on the Llama 2 AI model of Meta.
