Google says goodbye to Assistant, as Gemini is finally starting to land on Android Auto

Finally, the wait is over now! Google is starting to roll out Gemini on Android Auto, right after a long wait, when the company’s CEO first announced the replacement of Google Assistant in vehicles. After all, it’s happening!

To recall, Google announced that it’s preparing to replace Google Assistant with Gemini on its best driving companion, Android Auto, in April. Since then, users have been eagerly waiting and even witnessed a few reports that dropped the spotlight on the arrival of the Gemini AI assistant on Android Auto. But now, Gemini is available on Android Auto for some users, says the report.

Well, several Android Auto owners reported to Reddit (via 9To5Google) that they have recently received the Gemini update, and it appears that it is happening for beta testers who are running Android Auto 15.6 or 15.7 beta builds. Other than that, another report also confirms the same, where they have been seeing Gemini on Android Auto 15.6 version on their Pixel 10 Pro XL.

It’s important to note that both Android Auto 15.6 and 15.7 versions are currently only available in the beta channel; however, it’s still not clear whether Google has tied the Gemini rollout to the beta builds or if the AI assistant is flashing on that version coincidentally.

Well, Android Auto finally welcomes Gemini as its new AI assistant; it retains the signature word, “Hey Google,” in the car as well.

Also, the media widget on the car’s dashboard has been replaced with a live widget. Noticeably, in the new Gemini settings, users will now be able to turn on or off the ‘Interrupt Lice responses’ and ‘Share precise location’ toggles, which are enabled by default.

Android Auto has also just welcomed two new features for Google Maps. Nevertheless, it remains to be seen when Gemini AI is available to all Android Auto users.
