Firefly Wedding anime key visual featuring Satoko and Shinpei

Firefly Wedding is officially airing. The TV anime adaptation of Oreko Tachibana’s Meiji-era romantic thriller manga premiered yesterday, October 9, 2026, on Fuji TV’s Noitamina programming block, with Crunchyroll simulcasting the series internationally as it aired.

It’s the first major series from David Production, the studio behind JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, since Fire Force wrapped its run back in April.

A Marriage Proposal to an Assassin

Set in the Meiji era, the story follows Satoko Kirigaya, the beautiful daughter of a nobleman who appears to have everything going for her, except for a serious heart condition that leaves her with very little time to live. Satoko is determined to secure a marriage that redeems her worth in her family’s eyes before she dies, but those plans are thrown into chaos when she becomes the target of a mysterious assassin named Shinpei Gotō.

In a desperate bid to survive, Satoko makes an unusual proposal of her own: marriage. Her offer isn’t sincere, but Shinpei takes it seriously, and loves just as intensely as he kills, setting up a central tension between a woman trying to outmaneuver death and an assassin who finds himself drawn to his target.

Cast and Staff

Lynn voices Satoko Kirigaya, with Kōki Uchiyama as Shinpei Gotō. Kent Itō and Kenjirō Tsuda round out the main cast as Kōtarō Ogawa and Mitsueda, respectively.

Takahiro Kamei, known for directing the 2022 Urusei Yatsura reboot, directs the series at David Production, with Yukiko Aikei, whose credits include Your Lie in April and Words Bubble Up Like Soda Pop, designing the characters. Yūko Kakihara oversees series composition and scripts, and NOGRID composes the score. TOOBOE performs the ending theme, “Yumegokochi” (Trance).
