Samsung Display to increase panel shipment to Apple from 80 million to about 90 million units

Samsung Display could be the savior for Apple’s iPhone 17 series production, as BOE reportedly encountered technical problems and failed to meet Apple’s strict requirements.

A few months ago, Apple launched its latest iPhone 17, iPhone Air, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max, and all of these devices feature LTPO OLED panels to optimize performance and deliver smoother display quality.

Apple strategically splits orders among various partners just to ensure a stable supply, including LG and Samsung Display. For instance, Samsung Display is supplying panels for all of these four models, while LG Display is delivering the panels for three models except the Pro.

It’s been reported that BOE is expected to join the supply chain as a screen supplier for the iPhone 17 Pro model in China. Apple also ordered BOE to start mass production for 10 million panels from the beginning of the third quarter this year.

Meanwhile, a new report has now revealed that despite continuous investment in research and improvement, BOE is struggling with a serious issue related to product reliability. Unfortunately, these errors have not been resolved as of mid-November. If BOE doesn’t resolve this issue as soon as possible, it might reach this year’s supply target of almost zero.

However, to deal with this situation and avoid delay in the iPhone 17 production plan, Apple is shifting its focus to Samsung from BOE. According to the report, Apple is asking Samsung Display to increase the number of panels shipped to Apple from 80 million to about 90 million units.
