Galaxy Tab S8 European users can install the December 2022 security firmware

Samsung has now released the latest security update for its flagship tablet, Galaxy Tab S8, in the form of the December 2022 security update. It is the first Tablet to receive the security update. As per the information currently, the update is available in some European countries.

Users who own the Galaxy Tab S8 device can identify the December 2022 security update by its build numbers X706BXXU3BVL2, X806BXXU3BVL2, and X906BXXU3BVL2 for Galaxy Tab S8, Galaxy Tab S8 Plus, and Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra respectively. Notably, the update is available for cellular versions of the tab, while it is expected that the Wifi variant of the device should get the same update soon.

According to Samsung’s official page, the December 2022 security patch includes several 93 fixes that were added by Samsung and Google together, from those 80 fixes targeting the Android OS system, while Samsung added the other 13 for their Galaxy devices. Moreover, the update brings several improvements that enhance the overall security of the device.

December 2022 Security Patch Fixed These Vulnerabilities:

According to the Samsung documentation, the latest patches include the fix to as many as 93 vulnerabilities, 67 of them common to (almost) all Android devices. Of the long list, 5 vulnerabilities are defined as critical, 63 high priority, and 12 moderate. Most of these vulnerabilities affect Galaxy smartphones and tablets with Android 10, Android 11, and Android 12, but some also touch the latest version of the robot. Among the latter, one concerns the RCS system, which would allow malicious actors to access the phone number of an incoming call. It also required action on the vulnerability that would allow access to the contents of the toast notifications of the Personal Area through the Nice Catch app (it is part of the Good Lock package).

How to install

Users who own the Galaxy Tab S8 device in above mentioned countries can easily update their devices by following these steps

  1. On your Galaxy devices, head into your settings.
  2. Scroll to the bottom and click on Software update.
  3. Tap Download and install.
  4. Wait for your device to check for updates.
  5. If a security update is available, you can hit Install now.
