US Unlocked Galaxy S20, Note 20 users can install the January 2023 security update

Samsung is now rolling out the January 2023 security update for five Galaxy devices, including Galaxy Note 20, Note 20 Ultra, and Galaxy S20 series devices, which have three models: Galaxy S20, S20+, and S20 Ultra. Samsung has previously updated all the devices with Android 13. According to the information, these devices are no longer eligible for any further Android updates because they have already received the pre-decided Android update, which Samsung promised at the time of launching. However, they will get some more security updates in the coming days.

Galaxy Note 20

As of now, the unlocked variant of the Galaxy Note 20 series is receiving the latest security update in the form of a January 2023 security patch; users who own these devices can identify the latest update by their firmware version number N981U1UES3GWA1 and N986U1UES3GWA1 for Galaxy Note 20 and Galaxy Note 20 Ultra currently, the update is rolling out on the T-mobile network however it will be available on other networks soon.

Galaxy S20

The latest update comes with a new January 2023 security patch; it is currently rolling out for the unlocked variant of the Galaxy S20 series on some networks and will be available on all the networks in the next few days. Users who own these devices can identify the latest update by the firmware version number G981U1UES3GWA1, G986U1UES3GWA1, and G988U1UES3GWA1 for Galaxy S20, Galaxy S20+, and Galaxy S20 Ultra, respectively.

Samsung has already introduced the April 2024 security patch update to several units of Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5 devices. Earlier,  these devices had already grabbed the update in several regions, including the US, and now both of the foldables have started getting the latest security patch update in South Korea.

Users who own the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5 can identify the latest update by the firmware version numbers F946NKSS1CXD1 and F731NKSS1CXD1, respectively. With the latest update, it doesn’t bring any significant improvements for the devices, but it will provide some enhancements to the system.

Samsung brings the LTE TDD band support for these Galaxy devices in Europe via software update

Samsung has rolled out the second April 2024 update, which provides support for the new LTE TDD band. Several devices, including the Galaxy S24, Galaxy S23, Galaxy S22, Galaxy Z Fold 5, Galaxy Z Flip 5, Galaxy S23 FE, and Galaxy A54, have spotted the update in Europe as of writing. As per the changelog, it seems that the new feature, the 4G LTE TDD band, may be exclusively available for the European region.

Samsung Galaxy Phones get LTE TDD Band Support in Europe

Samsung, on the other hand, doesn’t explain the release of this update or its purpose, but it’s possible that the company will do so in the coming days.

As per the observation, the update seems to provide a boost to network connectivity on LTE. In simple words, the update may aim to enhance network connectivity by stabilizing the speed of the internet while connecting to the 4G network.

According to the changelog, it is worth noting that Galaxy users who purchase their smartphone in Germany will not be able to use 4G networks on TDD band connections in other countries, including Belgium, Denmark, Germany, France, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Austria, Poland, Switzerland, and the Czech Republic.
