Recently, Samsung unveiled its new generation of foldable devices, including the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5. Within a month, these devices will now receive the new software update. The new update brings improvements to the security of the devices in the form of a new August 2023 security patch.

Notably, the new update for the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5 is rolling out for unlocked variants of devices in the USA. Users can identify the latest update by these firmware version numbers: F946U1UES1AWH3 and F731U1UES1AWH3.

It is worth noticing that these devices have already grabbed the update on the locked variants; recently, it was spotted on Verizon, Metro PCS, and T-Mobile affiliated devices, and it is expected that it will be available on more carriers in the coming days.

What’s new in the update?

As we said earlier, both new foldables are receiving the August 2023 security patch. So don’t expect any innovation or changes to the devices. Generally, security patches are limited to fixing internal functions of the devices that are creating loopholes in their security. Therefore, you should also keep your devices updated with the latest security patch if you want your important data to be secure.

Installation

As the update is available for the unlocked variants of the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5, if you have one, you will soon get notified whenever the update is available for your devices. Alternatively, you can also check it manually by going to the software update menu in the system settings.
