The December 2023 update is the initial rollout starting for the Galaxy S20 series smartphones from the US. Earlier, Samsung rolled out the update to other Galaxy devices, including the Galaxy Note 20, Galaxy S23, and many more, and the company is gradually expanding the update to more countries and devices.
Users who own carrier-locked Galaxy S20, Galaxy S20+, and Galaxy S20 Ultra can identify the latest update by the firmware version numbers G981USQS8HWK1, G986USQS8HWK1 and G988USQS8HWK1 respectively. Currently, the update is available for US Cellular-affiliated devices, but it is expected to be available for other carriers in the coming days. The update is not related to the One UI, so don’t expect any new features for the devices.
According to the official documentation, the December 2023 update is the latest security update, which brings a lot of fixes for the enhancements of Galaxy devices. In detail, there are 66 security vulnerability fixes introduced under the update. From all those, there are 50 fixes included by Google and 16 fixes added by Samsung. With these combinations, Galaxy users get complete security enhancements.
Along with security enhancements, sometimes these updates also include some more improvements for the internal functions, which also increase the performance of devices by optimizing some features.
If you are also using the Galaxy S20 series devices in the US, now you can download the new firmware update by following these simple steps: Go to the system settings, then tap on the software update. tap download and install, and then wait until it finishes searching. If it says a new update is available, tap on the download button.
