Along with Tesla, Samsung Electronics has improved the household energy experience by integrating SmartThings energy with Tesla’s API giving customers a more convenient and smooth home experience.

Tesla and Samsung today announced their partnership in energy management for smart homes ahead of CES 2024. The SmartThings energy platform will enable users to monitor and manage their energy production, storage, and usage by connecting a variety of Tesla products, including Powerwall home batteries, solar inverters, Wall Connector charging solutions, and electric vehicles (EVs), through service integration.

Furthermore, SmartThings’ energy ability to synchronize with the Powerwall “Storm Watch” feature of the Tesla app will help users search for better plans for power outages and disturbances. This implies that customers can receive alerts via SmartThings on their linked Samsung TVs and smartphones in addition to the Tesla app in the event of extreme weather events like typhoons or significant snowfall. In order to prolong the amount of backup energy left in the Tesla powerwall, users can also turn on AI energy mode both before and during power outages. Although Samsung says it won’t be available for general sale until the second quarter of 2024, the Powerwall connection will be on display at the company’s CES booth next week.

Additionally, when this is all truly available, what you can do may vary because the blog post states that some features are there that could change. Using the Tesla API is just one more way Samsung is working to improve the multi-device experience for SmartThings users and make significant progress on the Net Zero Home initiative.

Chanwoo Park, EVP and Head of IoT Development Team of Device Platform Center at Samsung Electronics, said, Tesla Energy’s customers can now manage and monitor the power status of their homes through SmartThings Energy and Samsung devices in addition to the Tesla app, ensuring more access and connectivity. This new collaboration is a key milestone for Samsung Electronics in making our solution more widely available beyond home appliances.”
