Samsung Begins Trial Production of its 2nd-Gen 3nm Chip Process, SF3
Last year, Samsung was working on developing a new processor that will be capable of handling heavy process technology, and the latest one is processed on the 2nd 3nm class technology known as SF3. The Korean giant is planning to compete with TSMC and wants to surpass its production and market share.
According to some reports, Samsung is testing the performance and reliability of chips manufactured on the SF3 node. This is the first chip that is dedicatedly designed to enhance the capabilities of wearable devices. The company is expected to introduce the latest chip in the upcoming Galaxy Watch 7 and other devices.
Going into details, the SF3 is the 3nm-class technology that builds upon Samsung’s first generation 3nm process. Earlier, this company made the 4nm chips, which also captured the chip market, but now, with the new technology, the company is fully focused on leading the market. As you may know, as the processed NM decreases, it will become more reliable and efficient, which ultimately means that the devices that are equipped with the latest chip technology will provide enhanced performance.
According to Samsung, the SF3 node can enable different gate-all around (GAA) transistor nanosheet widths within the same cell, providing greater design flexibility. With this algorithm, it can also bring lower power consumption and higher performance to the chip and increase transistor density through optimized design.
It is expected that Samsung may use the new generation chip processing for the Galaxy devices through its upcoming Exynos 2500 chip, which may be available with next year’s flagship devices, the Galaxy S25 series.
The SF3 process will bring a new revolution that will have a significant impact on the semiconductor industry. With these new powerful chips, it will open the door for more advanced AI devices. The IoT will also lead the IoT devices and bring some new innovative features for the automotive industry.
Moving forward, Samsung is expected to grow more in the semiconductor business, and the SF3 may take the lead role in it. The upcoming time is AI; therefore, the company is fully focused on producing fully AI-capable chips, which means we will get to see more powerful automation in future devices. For your information, the Korean giant is one of the three companies that are working in the semiconductor market. Here, it has two more rivals, including TSMC and Intel, which it has already beaten, and now the company is giving tough competition to TSMC as well.
