OpenAI CEO Sam Altman visits South Korea for talks on AI Chip with Samsung and SK Hynix

‘Sam Altman, Chief Executive Officer of OpenAI, recently arrived in Seoul to get together with the top executives from South Korea’s semiconductor industry. He’s on the way to meet people from Samsung and SK Hynix. These are the two largest memory chipmakers in the global market who are actively working to introduce sophisticated chip plants domestically.
ChatGPT was launched by the US-based firm OpenAI. Undoubtedly, OpenAI is one of the leading brands in the AI industry at the moment.
To settle down the curiosity to know what happened after reaching there, we are discussing the detailed information. So, let’s get started.
Sam Altman visited South Korea to meet with Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix to discuss a future partnership for introducing semiconductor chips, especially those specialized for AI processing. Also, he is expecting to meet with top executives from several divisions, including foundry, memory, and system LSI units.
It seems that his aim is to raise billions of dollars to create a chip venture in which chip foundries are partners with OpenAI. The Korean giants and SK Hynix both have expertise in making high-bandwidth memory (HBM) chips, which are the main source of high-performance computing chips that are used for several AI-based tasks.
As per reports, Sam Altman will meet the lead executive of the Samsung Semiconductor business arm, along with the heads of Samsung Foundry, Samsung Memory (which designs DRAM, HBM, and NAND flash chips), and System (which designs application processors such as the Exynos division).
A genuine fact is that SK Hynix only designs and sells memory chips, so it is possible that Samsung Electronics can also manufacture semiconductor chips through its Samsung Foundry arm. It is one of the world’s leading brands that has the ability to make 7nm or more advanced semiconductor chips among the three brands.
To establish its presence, Intel has also recently started making advanced chips for other firms through the newly founded Intel Foundry Services firm.
