Attention Galaxy Owners: Update Support Ending/Downgraded for Some Devices!
Samsung frequently rolls out new security patches for its devices. To make it more organized, the company has already categorized the devices into different lists, including monthly eligible devices, which means the devices are eligible to get at least one security update per month; the second is the quarterly security update, which includes the devices that are eligible to get the first security patch per year; and the last is the biannual security update list, which includes the devices that are only eligible to get at least two security patches per year.
Samsung changes this list every year as well
Samsung frequently makes changes to the list of devices according to their updated eligibility criteria. For your information, the company promises to provide software update availability, which depends on the popularity and price range of the smartphones. For instance, there are smartphones available in three categories, including those in the budget range, which are eligible to get at least two to three years of a software update, while midrange devices are eligible to get a minimum of three to four years of software updates, and the final category belongs to high-end devices, which are eligible for five years, and with the new Galaxy S24, they can take the software update for seven years.
So, whenever any device reaches its retirement age, the company makes changes to the security patch policy. For instance, any device that belongs to the monthly security update changes to the quarterly security update according to the frequency, and then after it reaches the end of the year, sometimes the company shifts it to the biannual update.
Samsung has made a fresh change in the security patch list for these devices
Samsung has changed the categories of some Galaxy devices that are getting older than two years, including the Galaxy Tab A8 and Galaxy A03. These devices were previously listed in the quarterly security update list, but now they are shifted to the biannual security patch update list. Along with this, the company has also retired some devices, including the Galaxy A51 LTE, Galaxy A01, the Galaxy Tab S6, and the Galaxy W20 5G.
