Samsung and Metalenz Join Forces for Next-Gen Face Recognition Technology

ISOCELL Vizion 63D and ISOCELL Vizion 931 are the two new ISOCELL sensors Samsung unveiled two months ago. And now, in a new and revolutionary 3D face unlock mechanism, one of those sensors is used.
Back in the final stage of 2023, the Korean giants debuted two new ISOCELL sensors, one of which is being used in a cutting-edge 3D face unlock system developed by Metalenz, which highlights the abilities of the new depth-sensing camera technology of Samsung.
Actually, Metalenz is an optics brand established from research at Harvard University; it just simplified the complex optical module to enable new information in mass markets. And now it has announced its very first full-system 3D face biometric system, named Polar ID.

This new Polar ID system uses the ISOCELL Vizion 931 sensor from Samsung as a light engine for its revolutionary polarization-ssorting imaging system. Apart from this, it has also been making imaging and sensing solutions that are already housed in various smartphones.
Now for the change, and as per the advancement, Metalenz has created its full-system 3D face scanning, recognition, and unlock system, which can be used on multiple devices, even smartphones and tables. Although it has been claimed that Polar ID is the one and only consumer-grade imaging system in the world that has the power to sense the full polarization state of light, This means that it has the ability to work with a single image, whereas other 3D face unlock systems need various pictures to work.
This new mechanism makes the entire process faster and more accurate. The firm also claims that PolarID is 50% more cost-effective and smaller than traditional face unlock solutions. Metalens stated that the new partnership between Samsung and Metalenz for the ISOCELL Vizion 931 sensor and its mass production capability permit faster adoption of the Polar ID biometric system in smartphones.
This new Polar ID system is showcased at MWC 2024 in Barcelona, plus visitors will also be able to take a demo by using a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 powered reference smartphone. It appears that multiple smartphone brands are evaluating Polar ID, and additional evaluation kits will be available by the third quarter of this year. This new system can also be used in smartphones, AR/VR/MR devices, tablets, laptops, and many more.
