Micron Collabs With Samsung And HONOR: Offering New Ultra-Compact UFS 4.0 Module

The US brand, Micron Technology, which manufactures semiconductor devices like flash memory and DRAM, presented an improved version of its internal UFS 4.0 storage module.

Today’s the last day of Mobile World Congress 2024 in Barcelona, at which Micron Technology introduced an enhanced version of its internal UFS 4.0 storage module, which is configured as the smallest existing so far.

However, it’s not that new since the chip is already housed in a few Android flagship devices of this year (2024), which include the Honor Magic 6 Pro and the Samsung Galaxy S24 series smartphones, that are capable of enjoying this competitive advantage.

Micron Technology’s new and improved version of UFS 4.0 is the most compact UFS package in the world, measuring only 9 x 13 mm, which is quite better than the previous version, which measured 11 x 13 mm. This chip is built on the 232-layer 3D NAND architecture, which offers up to 1TB of storage along with very high speeds, necessary for the ever-increasing amount of data processed by smartphones without even sacrificing a bit of data security.

The brand assures a sequential read speed of up to 4300 MBps and a sequential write speed of up to 4000 MBps, which is twice as fast as the last generation of the chip. Basically, this chip is designed in such a way that it can speed up the loading and operation of large language models in generative AI applications.

A small memory chip permits the manufacturer to have extra space for other vital components or to be able to better reorganize the internal components of the smartphone, specifically if it is foldable. Noticeably, the higher efficiency means that the chip has less impact on battery life, even while using highly energy-intensive features such as augmented reality or artificial intelligence applications, games, or multimedia applications.

The latest firmware changes that will enhance the ecosystem are: High-Performance Mode, which will optimize performance during heavy usage of the phone; One Button Refresh, which will automatically clean and optimize stored data; and a UFS Zones approach, which is leveraged by the Micron UFS 4.0 chip to store data in specific zones across the entire storage space.

Whereas, without wasting an opportunity, both Samsung and Honor have chosen Micron Technology innovations within their latest flagship smartphones, named the Honor Magic6 Pro and Samsung Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24+, and Galaxy S24 Ultra.
