Samsung Galaxy S24 FE Could Gear Up for Summer Launch

Published

on

Surprise for Samsung fans, especially for those who prefer Fan Edition Galaxy devices, as a new product comes into existence: the Galaxy S24 FE.

Samsung recently launched the Galaxy S24 flagship series early this year, and now reports are unveiling that Samsung is releasing a new phone under the Fan Edtion brand named the Galaxy S24 FE. If the reports are to be believed, the brand name AnaPass is also contributing to this forthcoming edition.

AnaPass is a brand known for its T-Con displays, and as per reports, it is collaborating with Samsung to supply the phone’s OLED display driver chip (DDI). This chipset, named TED, combines the T-Con and DDI functions into one unit. It appears that this collaboration will probably boost the annual sales of AnaPass to its $100 billion target.

This time Samsung will use an unusual type of OLED display for the forthcoming Galaxy S24 FE device that allows for a thinner design alongside a minimal bezel called rigid OLED coupled with chip-on-film (CoF) packaging, which appears more complex to manufacture than standard displays. If this report comes true, then this collaboration will be of sufficient benefit to AnaPass since it is supplying a crucial component (TED) for a high-volume phone and expanding its market beyond Chinese smartphone brands.

Once AnaPass was one of the top providers of T-Con chipsets to Samsung Dispaly’s OLED, but somehow it lagged behind Magnachip in the higher-volume smartphone TED market. That is why this is the golden chance for AnaPass to increase its market share. Currently, Magnachip is targeting the BOE market.

Samsung Electronics is taking steps forward to diversify its providers of DDI chipsets. They are gearing up to expand production volume with Wonik D21, a company they invested in by acquiring Wonik Holdings in 2022. However, it is noted that Wonik D21 is still going through low production yields for DDI chips. Wonik entered the DDI market in 2022 by acquiring a 100% stake in Wonik D21 for KRW 10.7 billion.

Sales of AnaPass are predicted at 100 billion for this year, the same as in 2020. After recording KRW 101 billion in sales in 2020, AnaPass recorded sales of KRW 48.4 billion in 2021 and KRW 43.3 billion in 2022. As per the metrics of last year, it touched 71.5 billion with an operating profit of 4.5 billion won.

On the other side, the technique of developing DDI on the display panel substrate is divided into CoG, CoF, and CoP chip-on-plastic, depending on the type of board and the attachment method.

Galaxy S25 Ultra Rumors Hint at No Battery or Charging Upgrades

Published

Samsung has kept the same battery capacity for the flagship devices while also sticking to the same fast charging speed. If we look at the Galaxy S Ultra devices from the Galaxy S22 Ultra, the company has stuck with 45 W charging and the same 5000 mAh battery. According to the latest report, the Galaxy S25 Ultra may also use the same battery and specifications.

Previous, it was rumored that the Galaxy S24 Ultra could be equipped with stacked battery technology, which could lead to maximizing the component cost, but now, according to an X user named Sawyer Galox, it is reported that the Korean giant will skip this hardware change on the upcoming Galaxy S25 Ultra to save on component cost.

Along with this, the tipster also expressed his disappointment with Samsung’s take on the unchained hardware. He adds that users who want to buy the upcoming Galaxy S25 Ultra should keep their expectations low with the battery performance, as Samsung will keep the specs the same with the 500mAh battery and the 45W.

However, the company will also introduce its latest device with new chipsets that may provide improved optimization, which may provide some long-lasting battery life, but it will not provide any improvement in charging.

Samsung plans to implement its dual chipset strategy for Galaxy Z Fold6 and Flip6

Samsung is preparing to introduce its next-generation foldable device, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6. However, given that the new smartphones in the Z lineup typically launch between July and August, some rumors suggest that the company might host the next Galaxy Unpacked event on July 10, 2024. Despite the date being more than three months away, numerous details have surfaced online.

According to recent reports, Samsung plans to implement its dual chipset strategy for the foldable, mirroring the Galaxy S series lineup, where some models of the Galaxy S base and Galaxy S+ devices feature Snapdragon, while in other markets, they feature Exynos.

The next foldable lineup rumoured to come with multiple chipsets; for example, the Galaxy Z Flip 6’s last Geekbench listing showed that it has the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip. However, this processor is already one year old, so there are fewer expectations that it could be available in the main models. However, if a rumor proves to be accurate, it could potentially be available for the FE variant of the devices.

For your information, the rumors have revealed that Samsung could introduce two new versions of the foldable devices with the brand names ‘FE’ and ‘Ultra‘, so to make the difference, it may introduce them in separate chipsets. If it provides the older chipset for the FE version, then it will be successful in cost-cutting and releasing the device at a low cost.
