Apple Cuts iPhone Prices in China to Counter Huawei Challenge

Apple is playing with a new marketing strategy as it makes an incision in the iPhone’s price in China, and the key reason behind this seems to give strong competition to Huawei.

In the Chinese market, Apple has announced a hostile discounting campaign on its official Tmall site, offering great discounts of up to 2,300 yuan, which is approximately $318 on dedicated iPhone models. It’s the golden chance for iPhone fans from China to purchase a new iPhone since Apple is offering a huge discount.

Here’s the question: Why is Apple offering this huge discount of up to 2,300 yuan?

The key reason behind this discounting strategy by Apple hints that the brand in China is fighting off growing competition from local phone makers, especially Huawei. You can make a profit from this deal for up to 8 days, from May 20 to May 28. It appears more substantial than the one Apple offered earlier this year, back in February.

The highest discount in the February campaign was 1,150 yuan, and now the discount is up to 2,300 yuan, which means that this time the brand is offering a double discount off the previous discount campaign and the steepest discount Apple to the 1TB iPhone 15 Pro Max model, whereas other models also see significant price cuts.

For example, the 128 GB variant of the base iPhone 15 device has a discount of 1,400 yuan, as reported. The boosted competitive pressure on Apple comes after Huawei last month announced its new series of high-end smartphones, the Pura 70, after the debut of the Mate 60 last August.

Even after going through tough competition and offering discounts, Apple’s iPhone sales in China seem to be recovering, since their shipments increased by 12% in March 2024 compared to the previous year, which is an efficient upgrade after a rough start to the year along with a drop of 37 percent in the first two months.
