Samsung Surpasses Apple by 700 Million Units in 10-Year Smartphone Race: Shiped Nearly 3 Billion

700 million is a huge number, and that’s the milestone with which Samsung overcame Apple. In the past 10 years, Samsung has shipped 700 million units more than Apple.

Conspicuously, Samsung and Apple are two constant rivals in the tech industry. Now the new metrics are unveiling the statistics of how many units both firms have shipped over the past the past 10 years.

Samsung and Apple have an almost identical market share of around 20%, but if the latest IDC data presented by Altlndex.com is to be believed, the Korean brand has done something more. Dedicatedly, in the last 10 years, the Korean giant sold almost 3 billion smartphones, about 33% more as compared to those sold by Apple.

Metrics of years between 2014 and 2024 showcase that Samsung has shipped approximately 3 billion mobile phone units, which is a massive 700 million more than Apple’s shipments over the same interval. Meanwhile, in the same period, both firms have had their ups and downs.

Regardless of dealing with declining smartphone sales since 2014, Samsung maintains its legacy of leadership. Their success is likely due to their wide range of phones, offering each budget from earth-touching to premium options. This strategy permits them to stay alive with an efficient market share as compared to competitors such as Xiaomi, Huawei, and Vivo.

The Galaxy S series is one of the key points behind this victory since it has always recorded excellent sales. The current Galaxy S24 series sold 13.5 million units in the first quarter of 2024, recording a growth of 35% year-on-year as compared to its predecessor. Even though smartphone shipments fell from 292.3 million in 2014 to 258 million in 2022, the giant still managed to maintain its legacy in the industry. One of the major parts of this legacy is also the revamped mid-range Galaxy A series.

Apple has gone through a lot. The company has recorded a decline in sales for four consecutive years, along with annual shipments falling to 190 million units back in 2019, compared to 231 million units in 2015, then recorded a boasting 22% increase in global iPhone sales. In 2022, 231.8 million units were mentioned, the highest count ever recorded by the company.

However, the Korean giant saw its market share downfall from 30.7% in early 2014 to 20.8% in the first quarter of 2024, and the reason behind this downfall was the growth of a few Chinese brands, including Xiaomi, Vivo, and OPPO.
