Google Chooses TSMC Over Samsung for Pixel 10’s Tensor G5 Chip

It’s early to discuss, but TSMC will build Google Pixel 10’s Tensor G5 chipset. Here we are discussing the possible aspects based on the report disclosing this. Google collaborated with Samsung to develop its Tensor processors, which sped up development but limited Google’s technology. This was good in some aspects but resulted in Tensor chips that heat up more easily and use more power as compared to those made by TSMC, a competitor to the Korean giant. 

TSMC to Produce Tensor G5 Processor for Google Pixel 10

Previously, it was reported that the upcoming Pixel 9 would use a Tensor G4 chip made by Samsung, but with only slight improvements. However, Google’s next-generation Tensor G5 chip will be built by TSMC, as reported, marking a shift away from Samsung and probably bringing upgraded performance. 

The report unfolds the key fact behind the confidence that the leaked information about the Tensor G5 chipset is real; for instance, the codename ‘LGA’ in the shipping manifest coordinates with the leaked codename “Laguna Beach” for the Tensor G5, and the manifest also mentions TSMC and “InFO POP,” a packaging technology only used by TSMC. It’s dedicated evidence that it’s the Tensor G5, as leaks indicated a switch from Samsung to TSMC for this chip. 

From the details found in the shipping manifest, it is revealed that the Tensor G5 chip’s early development stage. The Chip Revision (AO) is the earliest version, probably with bugs that will be fixed later. OTP Version (V1) is the initial version of the chip’s one-time programmable data, following Google’s decision to change particular settings without even redesigning the chip itself. This version is much earlier compared to the final version of the previous Tensor G3 chip (V5). 

NPI-OPEN hinted at a very early stage in the chip’s development process and then passed tests. Even after bringing an early version, the chip has passed some functionality tests, particularly the system-level test (SLT), which simulates the basic use of a phone with the chip installed. The entry also stated the chip has 16GB of package-on-package RAM manufactured by SEC. This points to the leaks that the Pixel 9 Pro has an upgraded 16GB of RAM, which supposedly will set the standard for the Pixel 10. 

The entry also indicates that the exporter was Google LLC in Taiwan, and the importer was a company called Tessolve Semiconductor in India.
