Samsung Captures Top Phone Brand Spot in 38 Countries in Q1 2024
The Korean electronics firm Samsung Electronics led the tech market in 38 countries in the first quarter of this year.
Samsung, in terms of smartphone shipment, ranked first in 38 countries in the first quarter. It is more than twice as much as its constant rival, Apple, which ranked first in 16 countries. Last year, in the fourth quarter, Samsung ranked first in 28 countries, whereas Apple led in 24 countries.
Here is the list of regions where Samsung was strong:
- Asia, Eastern Europe, and Latin America, and accounted for more than 40% of the market in Brazil, Chile, and Poland.
This metric was revealed by Counterpoint Research on the 3rd: Samsung Electronics ranked first in 38 countries. Counterpoint Research also stated that “Samsung’s increase in the number of countries that occupied the top spot compared to the fourth quarter of last year was largely due to seasonal factors,” but stressed, “It is encouraging that Apple surpassed Apple in major Asian countries such as Singapore, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and the United Arab Emirates.”
The key reason behind this achievement is the Galaxy S24 series, which debuted early this year in January. Samsung ranked first in the global smartphone market with a share of about 20 percent in the first quarter of this year.
Noticeably, the Korean giant has sold fewer phones in some countries this year as compared to last year. They lost the top spot in a few Western European countries, including Belgium, Denmark, and the Netherlands, where Samsung was leading in the first quarter of last year, and in India for Chinese phone manufacturers, the number of No. 1 countries decreased slightly.
Xiaomi, one of the major Chinese OEMs, targeted emerging markets based on mid-to-low-priced models and ranked first in eight countries in the first quarter, including Bangladesh. The figure is an increase of three countries compared to the same period last year.
