Samsung Ended Software Support of three Galaxy devices, two newly added and one frequency changed [June 2024]
Samsung always runs on a particular software update policy, and by strictly following the policy, it frequently changes the list of Galaxy devices that are contenders to get the update from time to time. When it comes to major software updates like new Android versions or One UI, the company follows simple rules to provide an exact number of updates committed at the time of release, but on the other side, the release of the device security patch updates is a little bit complex.
When Samsung launched any device, it committed to giving articles five-year support for security patches to the devices, but between these years, the company changed the frequency of the devices. Initially, any flagship device was listed under the monthly update list, where it was eligible to get one update per month. After two or three years, the device shifted to the quarterly security update list, and in the last phase, it was listed under the biannual update list. Now with the official June 2024 SMR, there are some new changes that have happened. Let’s check them out.
Galaxy Tab S6 Lite (2022) shifted to a biannual update list
Here we can take the example of the Galaxy Tab S6 lite, which is now listed under the biannual update list shifted from the quarterly update list. Here we are talking about the 2022 edition of the device, which is now two years old. According to the company, the device will get five years of software update support.
The Galaxy F55 5G and Galaxy M35 5G are listed under the Quarterly Update category
Samsung has also welcomed new devices to the security patch update list. We are talking about the Galaxy M35 5G and Galaxy F55 5G, which launched in the last couple of months. As these devices belong to the affordable range, the company has listed them in the quarterly security update list, where they will get only four updates per year.
Samsung end software support for these devices in June 2024
Meanwhile, the company has also ended support for the devices that have reached their limits. There are four such devices, including the Galaxy A51 5G, Galaxy A41, and Galaxy M01. These devices launched back in 2020 and committed to getting a four-year security patch update, but they have not reached the limit of the policy and are now removed from the list.
