A New Samsung Galaxy Ring gets US Patent approval: Maybe the Galaxy Ring 2

The Korean brand ‘Samsung’ is expanding its smart wearable products by introducing the brand’s ever-first smart wearable ring called the Galaxy Ring. Before the launch of the first-generation smart ring, a new Galaxy Ring that received US patent approval could be the Galaxy Ring 2.

The Korean giant will introduce a bunch of the latest Galaxy products at the next Galaxy Unpacked event in Paris at the Louvre Museum on July 10, including the Galaxy Z Flip 6, Galaxy Z Fold 6, Galaxy Watch Ultra, Galaxy Watch 7, Galaxy Buds 3, Galaxy Buds 3 Pro, and Galaxy Ring.

Before any official announcement regarding the Galaxy Ring leaks and rumors, there were already a lot of details reported. Previously, mosaic promo images of all the products expected to launch at the upcoming event were leaked, suggesting Galaxy Ring could also be a part of it. The Galaxy Ring’s FCC certification revealed multiple details about the forthcoming health-tracking device. It has already been reported that the Galaxy Ring is expected to arrive in different variants based on sizes ranging from 5 to 12.

The ring is expected to feature a 17 mAh battery for the 5, 6, and 7 sizes. Whereas the bigger sizes, including 8, 9, 10, and 11, would feature an 18.5 mAh battery. The bigger ring, size 12, would have a 22.5 mAh battery. The differently designed charging case of the Galaxy Ring was also revealed in early leaks, which suggest that the case is similar to Ringconn’s charging case.

Meanwhile, the first-generation Galaxy Ring has yet to officially launch; allegedly, a new Samsung Galaxy Ring has received US patent approval. If the report by 91Mobiles is to be believed, the patent was filed back in May 2024 at the US Patent Application Publication, and it reveals some key details of the design of the alleged Galaxy Ring 2. The patent suggests a circular ring, with the sensors housed inside the inner layer.

The notable change that the patent reveals is that the new version has a squarish outer layer. The ring also appears to be a bit elongated and is not a circular ring, such as in the present Galaxy Ring’s design. It is speculated that the squarish outer layer might have an AMOLED display to interact with and view the health stats. It is also reported that the ring could arrive with an ECG sensor, temperature sensor, acceleration sensor, fingerprint sensor, and more.
