Samsung to Offer 7 Years of Tizen OS Updates for AI Smart TVs

The Korean brand ‘Samsung’ is looking forward to extending its firmware upgrade policy to include smart TVs by offering seven years of Tizen OS upgrades.

The company is set to expand the firmware upgrade policy to include smart TVs, offering seven years of Tizen OS upgrades. This directly follows the recent announcement of seven years of OS upgrades for flagship Galaxy phones.

If the new report is to be believed, citing a recent business briefing, Samsung is now looking forward to offering seven years of free Tizen OS upgrades to its latest AI-powered TVs. The reason behind this move also comes as the company is facing growing competition from Chinese rivals such as TCL Technology Group Corp. and Hisense Group, which are fast imposing themselves upon Samsung’s AI TV market share.

Generally, Samsung and other brands offer two or three years of firmware updates to their smart TVs. Samsung is now bringing a wave of software support to the smart TV market by offering long-lasting software support. The new policy will be beneficial as it ensures Samsung TV users get new features and improved security for longer.

Young Seok-woo, President and head of Samsung’s visual display business division, stated at a business briefing, “We will widen the gap in market share with Chinese companies with the seven-year free upgrade of Tizen applied to AI TVs.”

Initially, the new, long-lasting seven-year update service will be applied to models released this March and some products released in 2023. Apart from this, Samsung’s domestic TV rival, LG, announced that it would update a few TV models it released in 2022 “for the next five years.”
