Galaxy S24’s Super HDR Feature May Arrive on Older Samsung Phones Soon

Samsung debuted the Galaxy S24 series earlier this year, along with a notable novelty, the Super HDR. Android 15 could bring this feature to more Galaxy devices.

Initially, Samsung brought the Super HDR feature to the Galaxy S24. Samsung might bring this feature to more flagship Galaxy devices along with Android 15.

Super HDR is based on Ultra HDR, which contains HDR metadata. Devices with HDR displays use that data to display images in HDR. Usually, without HDR displays, phones ignore that data and show those pictures in SDR.

However, previously Samsung confirmed that Super HDR won’t be available on older Galaxy devices. The new report suggests that Google could force Samsung to include Super HDR on mid-range phones running Android 15.

It’s speculating since usually whenever Google releases a new Android version, it also releases a new Performance Class. The Android 12 brought Performance Class 12, Android 13 brought Performance Class 13, and Android 14 introduced Performance Class 14. Now it’s turn for the Android 15. The brands must categorise their devices into performance classes based on their capabilities.

If the report is to be believed, with Android 15, Google will release Performance Class 15, and one of the requirements of Performance Class 15 is support for Ultra HDR for the main camera at the front and the rear. This suggests the brands looking forward to Performance Class 15 will be required to equip their devices with Ultra HDR capabilities.

It’s expected that the company could offer Super HDR as a feature to meet the Ultra HDR requirement for its next-generation mid-range Galaxy device running Android 15.
