Android 15 to Feature Bluetooth 6.0 and New Advanced Security Upgrades
Android 15 is on the way to bring dozens of new features to upgrade the overall system software. Reportedly, it’s expected to bring a new feature, including enhanced factory reset protection and support for Bluetooth 6.0. The aim behind designing these features is to upgrade security and connectivity. Noticeably, Samsung’s One UI 7 is based on Android 15, and potentially it could adopt these features for Galaxy devices.
Android smartphones are capable of resetting factory settings using physical buttons, even by an unauthorized person who doesn’t own the device. This permits thieves to reuse or resell stolen devices without needing to unlock them.
Now to add an extra layer of security, Google is offering a new feature with Android 15. Android’s Factory Reset Protection prevents unwanted factory resets. While a device is associated with a Google account, a factory reset can only be completed by logging in to that account. When the user proceeds with a factory reset by following the setup wizard within Android, the operating system prevents them from completing the operations until they log in to the primary Google account associated with that device.
The feature uses a persistent data block to prevent unauthorized resets. Also, Bluetooth 6.0 brings a new feature named Channel Sounding, which permits for more precise distance measurements between devices. It will be beneficial for particular applications, for instance, such as Find My Device and keyless car starting systems.
Android 15 supports Bluetooth 6.0, but users would not be able to use it immediately. The company is expected to release devices or firmware updates with Bluetooth 6.0 support. It will be interesting to see whether Samsung will adopt these features with One UI 7 to enhance users’ secure experience.
