Samsung Drops GIF Feature from Smart Select Edge Panel in One UI 6.1.1

Undoubtedly, Samsung offered dozens of new features, improvements, and changes with the One UI 6.1.1 update. But the company also snatched the old functions with the update, such as GIF from Smart Select.

Recently, Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S23 users received the Android 14-based One UI 6.1.1 update. The brand has offered a bundle of new AI tools, improvements, and notable customisable changes.

Apart from offering new novelties, the brand has also snatched a few older functions from the Galaxy devices. It has already been reported that Samsung removed the ‘Auto-rotate widgets’ with the One UI 6.1.1 update.

Now the new report revealed that Samsung also removed the GIF from Smart Select. A user on Samsung Community reports that after installing the One UI 6.1.1 update, the smart select edge panel is revamped, and he lost access to create a GIF.

Although the revamped Smart Select looks better as compared to the previous version, it does not include the ability to create gifts of whatever is on screen.

Noticeably, the user also reported that he checked the Good Lock alternative since the feature is still present on the phone but only accessible through a 3rd party application, which seems inconvenient.

GIF in Smart Select is a feature that allows users to create animated GIFs from captured screen content. It lets you select a particular portion of the screen, record a short video of it, and then convert it into a GIF format, which seems quite a convenient feature. But now it’s not available.

However, Samsung has not revealed any specific reason to remove the feature; it remains to see whether it will offer it back or not.
