Samsung Galaxy devices to receive three new Theft Protection features soon

Samsung Galaxy devices to receive three new theft protection features by Google to offer an extra layer of security.

A few months back, Google announced three feature theft protection features for Android devices, which are as follows:

  • Theft Detection Lock
  • Offline Device Lock
  • Remote Lock

However, back in May, Google just announced the features and stated that these will be rolled out later this year. These features are dedicatedly designed to make stolen phones harder to use and keep personal data safe. Finally, Android users now have access to these three new features aimed at boosting device security. As a tipster, Mishaal Rahman shared a preview of these new features.

According to tipsters, the company started rolling out the new theft protection feature to Android phones in the US. Whereas in Brazil, the features entered beta in August, and Google informed him that the final versions of these features would more widely roll out this year.

Theft detection lock automatically locks an Android device if it detects that it has been stolen with the use of AI and sensors to identify common theft-related motions. The offline device lock allows users to remotely lock their Android device even if it’s not connected to the internet. The Remote Lock permits users to lock their device from a distance, using another device or a web browser.

Google announced that the “Theft Detection Lock” and “Offline Device Lock” are compatible with any Android device running Android 10 and later, whereas the Remote Lock is compatible with Android devices at least running Android 5.

This means that Samsung Galaxy devices running on Android 10 and later are all eligible for the theft detection lock and offline device lock. The Galaxy devices that are running on at least the Android 5 version are only eligible for the Remote Lock. However, it’s unclear exactly when Galaxy devices will receive these features.
