Samsung already gearing up to bring the Tri-Fold phone in next year

Recently, Samsung debuted its thinnest foldable, the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition. Now it is gearing up to bring its very first tri-fold smartphone into the market next year.

Samsung has already started its preparation for its ever-first tri-foldable phone. It is one of the leading brands in the tech market, but now to maintain its legacy, it has to make its debut in the tri-foldable market.

Its rival, Huawei, already launched its first tri-fold smartphone, the Huawei Mate XT, in China. However, it is banned from selling phones in the US. This means that if Samsung brings the tri-fold before any other brand, then it will be the first to offer a tri-fold phone globally.

According to a report from ZDNET Korea, Samsung’s display subsidiary has already built the parts for a tri-fold smartphone. Noticeably, the company has yet to make the final decision to debut a tri-fold phone. It will be taken by the MX (Mobile Experience) Division responsible for the foldable phones. It’s expected that next year the company will introduce the tri-fold phone alongside a new Galaxy Z Flip series smartphone.

Reportedly, the sales of Samsung’s foldable smartphones dropped this year. Nearly eight million units of the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6 models have been sold. Their overall foldable OLED display shipments are expected to decline by 40% in 2024 than last year. It remains to see whether the future tri-fold will boost the sales and increase the market share in the foldable market.
