Samsung collabs with SK Telecom for leveraging AI to optimize 5G Base Station Quality
Samsung Electronics is collaborating with SK Telecom (SKT) to enhance the wireless network operations. This collaboration implements AI-based 5G base station quality optimization technology, known as the AI-RAN Parameter Recommender.
Recently, Samsung and SK Telecom have finished the development of technology that automatically suggests optimal parameters appropriate for each base station environment. Reportedly, both brands have been working for so long to acknowledge past mobile network operation experiences using AI and deep learning techniques.
Finally, both the companies under the collaboration have successfully tested AI technology on a 5G network. By analyzing network data and using deep learning, the AI can automatically optimize network settings to maximize the potential of 5G base stations and enhance the user experience.
Samsung Electronics ‘Network Parameter Optimization AI Model’ used in this demonstration upgrades the efficiency of resources invested in optimizing the wireless network environment and performance and authorizes optimal management of mobile communication networks organized in cluster units.
For now, Samsung and SK Telecom are conducting additional learning and verification by expanding the parameters applied to the optimized AI model, intending to extend this application to high-traffic areas; for instance, subways, where patterns often change.
Choi Sung-hyun, Head of the Advanced Development Team, Network Business at Samsung Electronics, stated, “AI is a key technology for innovation in various industrial fields, and it is also playing a decisive role in the evolution to next-generation networks. Samsung Electronics will continue to take the lead in developing intelligent and automated technologies for AI-based next-generation networks.”
