Samsung is already struggling with its 3nm process technology; meanwhile, TSMC is setting up to mass-produce 2nm chips next year to widen the gap.
Samsung is one of the leading brands in the chipset industry, but now it is struggling hard to maintain its leading dignity as it is facing issues with its 3nm process technology. On the other side, its rival Taiwanese brand is setting up to widen the gap to stand strong against it.
According to the report of LibertyTimes, TSMC is looking forward to operating mass production of 2nm products after the test production yield of its 2nm process exceeded 60%. It is also planning to transfer its 2nm process technology, which has a yield exceeding 60%, to its new Kaohsiung plant; currently, it is the most advanced technology in mass production.
To implement the new plans, TSMC plans to build 10 new factories in Taiwan and overseas simultaneously next year. Reportedly, TSMC’s capital expenditure is projected to reach a record high of $38 billion next year; if, fortunately, it comes true, then the expenditure will cross the previous record of $36.29 billion.
However, for now, there’s a lack of detailed information regarding this, but it’s expected that more details of these capital investments will be disclosed during the fourth quarter earnings briefing.
