In the recent past, Samsung has been testing the Wear OS 5-based One UI 6 Watch update for months, and finally, the stable version is currently rolling out for the Galaxy Watch 4, Watch 5, and Watch 6 series in different regions across the world. Currently, some watch faces are no longer compatible with the Wear OS 5, and now we know the reason, thanks to 9To5Google’s report!

Although the watch face expansion for the Galaxy Watch ecosystem is huge and is already available to download via the Play Store; however, with the Wear OS 5 release, Google made some significant changes in its Watch Face Format policy as to how watch faces work, resulting in the compatibility issues.

The new Wear OS 5 version actively supports Google’s updated Watch Face Format policy, which is causing some older Wear OS watch faces to not support or work with the Wear OS 5 and, alternatively, in newer smartwatches as well.

Further, the key highlight is that Samsung itself confirmed that older watch faces that don’t support Google’s updated policy will not be supported on the Galaxy Watch 7 and Watch Ultra. Simultaneously, Samsung is delivering the new One UI 6 Watch to the Watch 6, Watch 5, and Watch 4 series to disable some watch faces on the smartwatches, as the update is based on Wear OS 5.

Alternatively, due to Google’s policy changes for the Play Store regarding restrictions for watch faces, a few watch faces will not be available in the Play Store. For now, Galaxy Watch owners can now download some different watch faces, as some new watch faces will be added to the Play Store.
