Samsung’s SmartThings is a versatile platform that allows Galaxy users to have a more connected home experience. Recently, a new report confirms that SmartThings app is adding a new TV remote widget option on the smartphone’s home screen, making it more convenient when changing channels.
The SmartThings app for Android has started receiving the December 2024 update (as spotted Via Android Authority), that will allow Galaxy users to place a TV remote widget straightly on their phone’s home screen, thanks to the newly-added Remote Widget functionality.

However, only compatible for 2022 or later Samsung TV, the latest remote widget boosts all the TV controls which can be effortlessly used directly from the Android’s home screen, boosting the power to access the ON/OFF switch, volume, and channel buttons. This anyway makes the process a little easier, and reduces the hustle to get into the SmartThings app for changing channels.
How to add the new remote widget?
Alternatively, following a few steps, you can easily add the new remote widget on your Android’s home screen via the SmartThings app. Meanwhile, just you are required to update your SmartThings app to latest version, and the process is as follows:
- First up, long press on an empty space on your smartphone’s home screen.
- Click on Widgets.
- Get to the SmartThings Remote option
- Drag and drop the remote widget to your home screen
- Lastly, pick the Samsung TV that you need to control via your phone.
