Galaxy S26 Ultra Could Revive a Classic Galaxy S9 Camera Feature

Samsung is supposed to debut the next-generation Galaxy S26 series in early 2026, and the Ultra variant of the lineup is anticipated to feature variable aperture.
Earlier this year, Samsung launched the Galaxy S25 series, including three variants, and is almost set to launch one more device under the same series: the Galaxy S25 Edge. The company is now eagerly awaiting the launch of the Galaxy S26, which will include three variants: Galaxy S26, Galaxy S26+, and Galaxy S26 Ultra.
Previously it was rumored that the Galaxy S26 Ultra could feature a 200MP periscope telephoto camera with a 1/1.5-inch type. A new report from a reliable tipster, Ice Universe, revealed that Samsung is planning to offer variable aperture to the Galaxy S26 Ultra.
Reportedly, this feature is only available on the phone’s primary rear camera. Initially, the company introduced dual-aperture technology with the Galaxy S9 and the Galaxy S9+, which are compatible with a switch between F1.5 and F2.4 on the particular scene. Selecting the F1.5 aperture setting permits more light into the camera sensor, resulting in reduced noise but a narrow field of view.
Samsung continued the dual-aperture feature until the Galaxy S10 series, and now again it appears to bring variable apertures with the Galaxy S26 series. However, currently, it is unclear whether it’s truly a variable aperture, like the one available on the Xiaomi 14 Ultra, or just a dual-aperture as already seen on the Galaxy S9. It’ll be interesting to see what happens next.
