One UI 8 could integrate Host Image Copy to enhance gaming performance

Samsung Galaxy users, get ready to experience improved gaming performance with Android 16-based One UI 8.
Currently, Samsung’s One UI 7, based on Android 15 utilizes Vulkan for upgraded game performance. The Galaxy devices that will run Android 16-based One UI 8 will be required by Google to include the Vulkan 1.4 API’s Host Image Copy feature, further upgrading gaming by minimizing stuttering, load times, and memory usage.
The latest version of the Vulkan graphics API, Vulkan 1.4, makes the Host Image Copy a core feature. It is supposed to be an efficient feature to improve the gaming experience on Android devices. A new report from one of our reliable colleagues, Android Authority, revealed that Android 16 or later devices must support the Host Image Copy feature since the latest version of Vulkan 1.4 makes it a core feature.
Reportedly, a few Android smartphones already support Host Image Copy, however, the specific devices are not revealed. Initially, Google, with Android 7.0 Naugat OS, introduced support for the Vulkan graphics API in 2016, but the compatibility of Android devices with Vulkan support was quite limited.
Now, adoption has grown efficiently, with over 85% of Android devices now supporting it. Google has settled on Vulkan as the official graphics API for Android and commanded its implementation in all applications for GPU communication. The new Host Image Copy feature will make the Games run better with Android 16.
