Samsung’s dominance in the foldable market could be at risk, as its rival, Apple, is predicted to dominate the market immediately after launching its first foldable iPhone.
A reliable tipster, Jukan, shared a post on X, revealing that Apple is considering producing at least 10 million units for the first generation. If the report comes true, then it will be large enough to surpass the projected sales of Samsung’s next-generation foldable devices, i.e., Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Galaxy Z Flip 8.
According to the report, Samsung is the key supplier for Apple’s upcoming foldable iPhone, and is expected to produce 11 million OLED panels for the device next year. On the rivalry side, Samsung is reported to sell around 6.7 million units of the Galaxy Z Fold and Galaxy Z Flip 8 in the second half of next year, despite its long experience and advanced foldable screen technology.
However, a previous report predicted that Apple would produce almost six to eight million units. The new report regarding the rise in production suggests that Apple is confident enough about the higher success rate of its first foldable iPhone and is pursuing an ambitious strategy.
In case Apple delivers a crease-free foldable screen experience as expected, then it could surpass Samsung in the foldable market. It will be interesting to see how Samsung will maintain its leading legacy in the foldable segment.
