Sgt. Frog New Anime Gets Second Trailer, Cast Reveal

The new Sgt. Frog anime is closing in on its premiere, and its latest trailer just dropped. Titled Keroro Gunsō☆, the series unveiled a second main trailer, its opening and ending theme songs, and five additional cast members, all confirming an October 3, 2026, premiere in Japan. It’s a genuinely busy year for the franchise, with this new TV series arriving as one of three separate Sgt. Frog projects releasing in 2026.

Based on Mine Yoshizaki’s long-running manga, which began serialization in 1999 and has reached 35 volumes as of December 2025, Sgt. Frog follows an alien invasion platoon whose leader, Sergeant Keroro, ends up abandoned on Earth and taken in by an ordinary Japanese family after his invasion plans fall apart.

Sgt. Frog New Anime – What We Know

Keroro Gunsō☆ features an entirely new voice cast rather than bringing back the actors from the original 2004 series, a deliberate choice the production team announced well ahead of the show’s premiere. Akihiko Sano, who directed Farmagia, is directing the new series, with Nobuhiko Kondo, who previously directed the original anime starting from episode 104, serving as chief director. Hatsue Nakayama handles character designs, and BN Pictures, the studio previously known as Sunrise, is producing the animation.

The new trailer confirmed the show’s music: “Kirai nochi Suki!” performed by ano as the opening theme, and “Himitsu no Panorama” by PURPLE BUBBLE as the ending theme. Five additional cast members joined the previously revealed lineup with this update, rounding out the ensemble ahead of the October debut.

This new series is separate from two other Sgt. Frog projects also happening this year. A 20th-anniversary anime film, marking two decades since the original TV series began, already premiered in Japanese theaters on June 26, 2026, notably featuring the original cast returning to their roles rather than the new voices used in the TV series. A stage production, the Pekopon Shinryaku Musical “Keroro Gunso,” is separately opening in September 2026. Between the film, the musical, and now this new TV series, 2026 has become an unusually packed anniversary year for the franchise.

The original Sgt. Frog TV anime ran from 2004 to 2011 across 358 episodes, produced by Sunrise, followed by a smaller 24-episode continuation titled Keroro in 2014. VIZ Media publishes the manga in English, and Discotek Media has handled North American home video releases of the earlier anime and films.

What This Means for Fans

Casting an entirely new voice cast for the TV series while keeping the film’s cast intact is an unusual split, and it suggests the studio wants the new series to stand on its own rather than simply continuing the original show’s identity wholesale. That’s a real risk for a franchise this recognizable, since much of Sgt. Frog’s appeal for longtime fans is tied directly to its original cast’s specific comedic delivery.

Running three separate projects, a film, a stage musical, and a new TV series, within the same year is also a significant vote of confidence in the property’s continued commercial appeal more than two decades after its debut, and it gives both nostalgic longtime fans and newcomers multiple different entry points into the franchise at once.
