Samsung One UI 7 Improves and Breaks Lock Screen Notifications

With the latest Android 15-based One UI 7, Samsung performed a series of changes and other relevant improvements on how notifications will be dealt with in the Galaxy smartphones.

Well, the company separated the notifications from the Quick Panel when the beta version arrived, now it seems like the company breaks the entire experience of lock screen notification with the arrival of the S25 lineup.

The Samsung Galaxy S25 series houses the One UI 7 version, while among other enhancements, Samsung changes how the notifications will be displayed on the phone’s lock screen.

With One UI 7, Samsung set the “icons only” option by default, instead of full card view.

Now, instead of displaying notifications in a full-card view, the company has set lock screen notifications to “icons only” by default, which significantly breaks the experience of the users. Since the “full-card” notifications are hidden, users only get an indication that they have received any notification from only an icon that is displayed at the top left corner of their phone’s lock screen.

This, however, doesn’t allow users to see the actual content of the notification received from any app or service, leaving behind the hassle to click to see what the notification is all about. Alternatively, the best part here is that the users can easily and at any time change the icon view option for the notifications on the lock screen, which is set by default to the full-card view option by getting through the lock screen settings.

While the notifications play a crucial role for smartphones, these can easily frustrate users if they are not displayed or placed in the right manner. Hopefully, this new change to the notification display on the lock screen may not trigger users when Samsung starts releasing the stable One UI 7 version to older Galaxy phones.
