Verizon, Comcast, XFinity Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Flip 4 updated to December 2022 patch in the US
As you know, Samsung is running a campaign for the Android 13 rollout, and it has set a target of serving the update to as many phones as possible before the year ends. The Korean giant is also distributing the December 2022 security update for eligible smartphones as well.
The Korean giant has covered most of the flagship smartphones with December 2022 update, including Galaxy Z Fold 2, Galaxy Z Fold 3, Galaxy S21, Galaxy S22, Galaxy Z Fold 4, and Galaxy Z Flip 4. Yes, you read it right the Galaxy Z Flip 4 and Fold 4 have received in December 2022 earlier in different regions. Now, these two devices are getting the latest security update in the US.
December 2022 update for locked Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Flip 4
Notably, the carrier-locked variant of Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Flip 4 received the December 2022 security update on Verizon, Comcast, and Xfinity networks in the United States. The update comes with new firmware version numbers F936USQU1BVL7 and F721USQU1BVL9, respectively.
According to the information, the December 2022 security update includes 93 fixes which improve the overall performance and stability of the device, as the device has recently received an Android 13 update, so for enhancing the compatibility, the latest security update may carry some optimization features for it.
December 2022 Security Patch Fixed These Vulnerabilities:
According to the Samsung documentation, the latest patches include the fix to as many as 93 vulnerabilities, 67 of them common to (almost) all Android devices. Of the long list, 5 vulnerabilities are defined as critical, 63 high priority, and 12 moderate. Most of these vulnerabilities affect Galaxy smartphones and tablets with Android 10, Android 11, and Android 12, but some also touch the latest version of the robot. Among the latter, one concerns the RCS system, which would allow malicious actors to access the phone number of an incoming call. It also required action on the vulnerability that would allow access to the contents of the toast notifications of the Personal Area through the Nice Catch app (it is part of the Good Lock package).
Samsung has already started rolling out the May 2024 security patch for the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5, but it was limited to the unlocked version. Now, with the latest development, the update has been spotted on several locked variants.
As of writing, the May 2024 security patch has been spotted for Verizon-locked devices. Users who own the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5 bound to the Verizon network can identify the latest update by these firmware version numbers, F946USQS3CXE3 and F731USQS3CXE3, respectively.
The May 2024 security patch doesn’t bring any new features, but it will provide enhancements for the security of the devices. According to the official documentation, it will bring more than 50 fixes. Google has introduced 31 patches that will enhance the Android system, and along with this, there are 25 extra patches introduced by Samsung that will improve the overall performance of the Galaxy devices to protect user data against external threats.
Moreover, if you are having any issues while using any function on the device, then you should update the device. It will fix the issues and enhance the device’s performance and stability.
