Samsung formally announced the release of One UI 5.1 for the initial batch of Galaxy smartphones a few days after distribution began. With a few additional specifics on the news, we now have an official indication of the first models receiving it or receiving it soon.

Samsung officially announced One UI 5.1 and eligible models

With the debut of the Galaxy S23 series on February 1, 2023, at the Unpacked event, Samsung today announced the distribution of the One UI 5.1. As was to be expected, the distribution began with the Samsung Galaxy S22 series. Still, it has now expanded to include a number of other models, including the Galaxy Z Fold4 and Galaxy Z Flip4, as well as the Galaxy S21 and S20 series.

“One UI 5.1 is the up-to-date example of Samsung’s commitment to providing Galaxy users with the latest innovations as soon as possible,” said Janghyun Yoon, EVP and Senior Executive, Software Office. “Over the past several weeks, we have worked closely with our service providers and carrier partners to bring One UI 5.1 to current Galaxy smartphones and tablets around the world within a few short weeks of the Galaxy S23 series announcement.”

The recently updated camera functions debuted with the Galaxy S23 series are expanded upon in One UI 5.1. With the addition of Expert RAW4 tools to the Galaxy Camera software, users have more freedom to produce photographs of a professional caliber. To take high-quality pictures in their raw format, just press “More” when taking a picture. Additionally, the upgraded AI-based Photo Remaster intelligently corrects colors, brightens details, and enhances deteriorating image details, even in backlit scenarios. For a picture-perfect photo, it also eliminates undesirable shadows and reflections.

One UI 5.1 Dynamic Weather Widget

Among other new features, Samsung cites the new dynamic weather widget, which analyzes current conditions and creates a corresponding custom design, but also the improved Smart Suggestions widget, now able to suggest Spotify songs and playlists based on user activity. We also have progress on modes and routines, which are even more advanced and customizable with backgrounds, ringtones, touch sensitivity, and fonts.

One UI 5.1 Brings Galaxy Ecosystem

Thanks to One UI 5.1, Samsung has then improved integration between devices in its ecosystem. Users can enjoy a connected ecosystem through their smartphone and PC with Extended Multi Control between Galaxy Book, tablets, and phones: the feature is compatible with smartphones with One UI 5.1, tablets with One UI 4.1, and Galaxy Book notebooks launched from 2021 onwards. It allows you to share your PC’s mouse, keyboard, or trackpad, take advantage of copy-paste, drag, and more, also through Connect to Windows and Samsung Internet Browser.

The update to One UI 5.1 is already in deployment for the first wave of smartphones, which includes the following models:

Currently, the Galaxy S20FE devices are receiving the update in the form August 2023 security patch.

The latest security patch doesn’t bring any innovation to the device, but it brings some minor increment for the improvements of the security of the devices. At the moment, Samsung still needs to publish a detailed bulletin of the update, so we can’t say exactly how many fixes were made in this update.

The August security patch is now rolling out in some countries, including Panama, Bolivia, Brazil, Guatemala, Paraguay, and Trinidad & Tobago. All the Galaxy S20FE users who belong to the mentioned countries will get the update through OTA.

The new update for Galaxy S20FE is now live in the countries mentioned above, but due to the limitation of the server, it will be distributed to users batch-wise, which means some users will get it on the same day of release while others will get it in the next few days.

Users who own S20FE should get the notification on their devices shortly; once the notification arrives, you can easily update your device by tapping it and installing it through the software update menu. Alternatively, users can check the update availability manually by going to the software update option by the device’s main Settings.
