May 2023 security update rolls out for Galaxy S22, Galaxy Note 20, and Galaxy M53 5G
Samsung has rolled out a new security update in the form of May 2023 For the Galaxy S22, Galaxy Note 20 series devices, and Galaxy M53 5G smartphone. The update is a regular monthly update that aims to enhance the security of Android devices.
Being the parent company of Android, Google pushes new security updates for all Android devices, which were later developed by brands to add some new features or optimize them for their devices.
Samsung is the most active company in comparison to other brands; most of the time, the company brings some important enhancements in these minor updates; for example, in the last security update, it added image clipper functionality for high-end devices.
However, the latest security update (i.e., May 2023) doesn’t bring any new feature updates for the devices, but as usual, it comes with some new enhancements and fixes for security vulnerabilities.
The latest security update is rolling out in Brazil. Users who own Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22+, and Galaxy S22 Ultra can identify the update by the firmware version numbers S901EXXS4CWD5, S906EXXS4CWD5, and S908EXXS4CWD5 respectively. While the update for Galaxy Note 20 and Galaxy Note 20 Ultra comes with N981BXXS6HWE2 and N986BXXS6HWE2 sequentially. The Galaxy M53 5G is getting May 2023 security update with build number M536BXXS2CWD1.

Last year’s flagship device, Galaxy S22, and the old flagship device, Galaxy Note 20 are enjoying regular monthly updates, while Galaxy M53 5G is only eligible for four security updates per year. The common thing between these devices is that they have received the latest skin update in the form of One UI 5.1 in previous updates.

April 2024 Update also available for Galaxy S23 FE, Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S21 in South Korea
After introducing the April 2024 security patch to the Galaxy Z Fold 4, Galaxy Z Flip 4, and Galaxy Z Fold 3 devices, Samsung has now made the April 2024 security patch update live for the Galaxy S23 FE, Galaxy S22, and Galaxy S21 smartphones in South Korea. Earlier, the company had already distributed the same update for these smartphones in some regions.
Notably, the Galaxy S23 FE is getting the April 2024 security patch update in South Korea with the firmware version number S711NKSS1BXD5. For the Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22+, and Galaxy S22 Ultra, the update is coming with the firmware version numbers S901NKSU3DXD3, S906NKSU3DXD3, and S908NKSU3DXD3, respectively. Meanwhile, the Galaxy S21, Galaxy S21+, and Galaxy S21 Ultra are getting the same update with firmware version numbers G991NKSU4FXD3, G996NKSU4FXD3, and G998NKSU4FXD3, respectively.
The April 2024 update brings new security-related enhancements; as per the documentation, there are more than 40 fixes introduced. Google has included 27 fixes that will resolve issues in the Android OS. Along with this, Samsung has also added 17 patches that will fix the issues found in Galaxy devices exclusively.
Along with this, Samsung has also introduced a mobile ID function for the Galaxy S21 and Galaxy S22 users. With this function, users will be able to carry their driving license and national veteran registration card in the Samsung Wallet.
