Third-Party Apps & Watch Faces No Longer Support On Fitbit Smartwatches

Published

on

In the European Union, Fitbit smartwatches will soon lose support for third-party apps as well as watch faces. Let’s take a closer look at this report.

Watch faces are the dials of watches that come in a vast range of colors as well as marker combinations, so when the users want to try out some more new and upgraded watch faces, they can go through third-party apps, but now Google has announced that, within a few months, third-party apps and watch faces will be removed from all Fitbit smartwatches used in the European Union.

It is being reported by a support page update in which Google unveiled the official strategy to drop down all third-party applications and clock faces even from existing Fitbit devices available in the EU. It is reported that this new plan will come into existence in June 2024.

Here’s the confusion, since it is not clear yet whether the users can use the already-installed third-party apps and watch faces on their devices or not.

The list of Fitbit smartwatches that will lose third-party applications and watch faces in June 2024:

  • Fitbit Sense 2
  • Fitbit Versa 4
  • Fitbit Sense
  • FitBit Versa 3
  • Fitbit Versa 2
  • Fitbit Versa Lite
  • Fitbit Versa
  • Fitbit Ionic

Google stated that the Fitbit and Google apps will continue to be available, but the company clarified that Google applications are mostly exclusive to the Fitbit Sense 2 and Versa 4 wearables.

For now, the reason behind this decision is not clear, but it may be because of a careful assessment of the impact of the new European regulatory requirements or maybe because of the Digital Markets Act (DAM), which recently entered force in the EU.

Samsung is preparing to introduce its new’smart forward’ service, which will leverage SmartThings to continuously update its SmartThings-connected smart home devices.

For your information, Smart Forward Service aims to provide regular and continuous software updates and offers fresh features to the products, irrespective of their debut in their market, whether they are new or old.

The latest development, the new smart forward update, brings some new features to several smart home-based devices, including the Bespoke refrigerator, 4-door family hub, Bespoke air dresser, and dehumidifier.

For the Family Hub refrigerators that were released after 2017, the latest 2024 model of the bespoke family hub was applied, including the functionality to quickly view photos and videos saved on your smartphone through the ‘Quick Share’ function on the refrigerator’s screen. Along with this, you can also run the ‘YouTube’ app right away to enjoy the content you want. Apart from this, it also gives the functionality to continue watching on the internet while the refrigerator screams from the smartphone.

The dehumidifier devices released last year now feature a “custom dying” function that automatically dries the interiors, making it more convenient to remove humidity regardless of the weather.

Meanwhile, the Bespoke Air Dressers released last year will take advantage of the ‘AI saving mode’ option. This feature will optimize Air Dressers’ energy consumption and help users save up to 15% of energy. However, it is worth noticing that when you use the AI saving mode, it may increase the drying time.
