YouTube Music has over 70 million official tracks and millions of active users. Now, to maintain the legacy and enhance the experience, the platform is rolling out a new feature for song identification with Hum to Search on Android.
YouTube Music for Android is delivering a long-awaited feature that permits you to “play, sing, or hum a song” to search. This feature will surely enhance your song-searching experience. To experience this feature, all you have to do is tap on the magnifying glass icon housed in the top-right corner, and then you will see a new waveform icon beside the microphone.
Whereas the two side-by-side buttons appear somewhat odd, however, it’s pretty better as compared to the main YouTube app, which houses both search features on one screen with a switcher up top. A vibrant search page on YouTube Music will prompt you to search for songs effortlessly by playing, singing, or even humming. This functionality was initially introduced in 2020 for Google Search. It is based on the Pixel’s Now Playing feature and then came to the YouTube app last year in October. To function with this feature properly, AI is used “to match the sound to the original recording.”
The identification process can be pretty fast, and a full-screen results page shows cover art, song name, artist, album, year, and even download/offline status, as well as Play or Save to your library shortcuts. Users are also permitted to exit this screen from the top-left corner or perform another search at the bottom. The new feature for YouTube Music arrives with Version 7.02 for Android.
