Android 15-based One UI 7 will let widgets work seamlessly

Samsung is actively setting up for its next major iteration, Android 15-based One UI 7, which is expected to fix the widget’s improper working inconvenience.

The Korean giant has already started One UI 7 internal beta testing for the recently launched Galaxy S24 series. The leaks and rumours regarding One UI 7 features have been blowing up in the market for a long time. A new leak suggests that this update will enhance the widget’s functionality to deliver a seamless experience.

On Android’s developer website, Google states that the OS will disable the app’s widgets when an application is closed on Android 15. Once that happens, the widgets will stop working, they will be greyed out, and users will not be able to interact with them. Then, to make the widgets work again, you will have to open the app to which they are dedicated, directly or indirectly.

The change will be beneficial; for instance, if an app’s widget is not working seamlessly, users have to close the app and re-open it to fix it. Currently, in Android 14-based One UI 6.0 or even in the latest One UI 6.1 version, closing the application and re-opening it will not fix this and the app.

Now, in Android 15-based One UI 7.0, closing the app will instantly stop the widget from running, and while re-opening the app, the widget will restart, which should conveniently fix the issue. However, this new change will also bring disadvantages since closing an app will also stop its widget from running, which will be inconvenient, especially for those who want to conserve battery and keep their multitasking clean but still use widgets.
