Samsung Galaxy S25 Series Shifts to All-Qualcomm Lineup Due to Exynos 2500 Problems
Continued leaks and rumors suggest that Samsung is actively working on the Galaxy S25 series to launch in early 2025. The brand could exclusively use a Qualcomm processor for the entire Galaxy S25 series over its in-house Exynos 2500.
Some Reports are aggressively reporting that Samsung could power the entire Galaxy S25 series with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 instead of its in-house Exynos 2500. The reason behind this seems to be that the Exynos 2500 processor suffers from poor yield and high power consumption in the 3nm process. This significant shift marks a departure from the Galaxy S24 series, where Qualcomm supplied only 40% of the processor.
Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo predicts that the Korean giant is looking forward to switching to Qualcomm processors exclusively for all three variants of the Galaxy S25 series. He also predicted that the price of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 processor, based on Qualcomm’s self-developed Oryon CPU core, would boost by 25–30%. This price hike will probably be efficient for Qualcomm as the Koran brand boosts its chipset order share for the Galaxy S25 series.
Initially, the Exynos 2500 chipset was supposed to be a game-changer, but that’s not the case anymore. The early benchmark suggests that the Exynos 2500 processor might outperform Qualcomm’s competition, but the Korean brand hit a sticky-out bit. Their 3nm manufacturing process goes through low production yields and high power consumption. As compared to TSMC’s similar technology, Samsung fell short by 10–20% in performance; this is the key reason why Samsung switched to Qualcomm processors for the Galaxy S25.
Due to all this mess, Samsung’s struggles transparently highlight the worthiness of well-regulated manufacturing and technological advancements in the competitive chip industry, where TSMC presently leads in the 3nm process.
