Verizon is set to bring Satellite SOS Feature to Samsung Galaxy smartphones
Undoubtedly, satellite connectivity is one of the valuable technologies for which smartphone brands are struggling. Recently, Google brought the satellite connectivity facility with its newly launched Pixel 9 series. Now, Samsung is also rumored to be adopting convenient satellite connectivity with its coming flagship devices.
Meanwhile, Verizon came up on the stage to announce it’s launching satellite messaging support for smartphones. It announced that it is collaborating with Skylo to introduce satellite messaging for smartphones.
Reportedly, Version will provide satellite SOS support that will use the same technology as Google offered to its newly launched Google Pixel 9 smartphones. Google partnered with Garmin and Skylo to add Satellite SOS to the Pixel 9 in the US, which uses Skylo’s satellite network to provide emergency communication. Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 SoC debuting in October will support this technology. Meanwhile, Samsung is also testing 5G NTN modem tech for satellite communication.
It has already been reported that Samsung is setting up to debut its next-generation flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S25 series, which is highly expected to be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 SoC. This suggests that the forthcoming Galaxy S25 smartphone could bring satellite SOS. However, Samsung has not officially announced anything regarding this report. It remains to see whether it will bring the satellite connectivity support.
