Android Auto is a smart system that connects Android smartphones, including Samsung devices, to the car’s infotainment system, allowing users to just focus on the road by eliminating all the distractions while driving. It comes with several impressive features, including navigation and media playback.

However, Android Auto never lets you play local media directly to the car’s display. Now, Android Auto could soon resolve the local media playback connected to your car.

As of now, Android Auto lets you play music through your smartphones’ local files or via any music streaming services like Spotify; however, it fails to access any file or music stored locally on your car’s infotainment system or a USB drive connected to your car. In order to access the local music or media, you need to exit Android Auto and head back to the car’s stereo to listen to the local media.

Things could change now. Spotted with the latest Android Auto 12.8 version, Google is planning to integrate a new feature/icon, which will significantly let users play their local media via their car’s infotainment system without having to exit it. Even so, alongside local media playback, Google could also add a new service for radio controls as well, directly within the app.

Moreover, it’s highly expected that Google could soon resolve the local media playback issue on Android Auto, bringing new features and services within Android Auto that will significantly allow users to play their local media directly through their car’s infotainment system.
