Samsung Messages to end RCS support on Verizon, users are advised to switch to Google Messages

Samsung has long ago decided to ditch its dedicated default messaging app, Samsung Messages, from its Galaxy devices, replacing it with Google Messages. However, users were still able to use Samsung Messages for having RCS conversations. Now, it’s disappointing for Galaxy fans that Samsung Messages is leaving the RCS support in early 2025 for Verizon users.

The company started showing signs when the current Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Flip 6 models didn’t come pre-installed with Samsung Messages, replacing it with Google Messages as a new default messaging app.

However, the other older Galaxy users still prefer Samsung Messages over due to its brilliant features and RCS support. Now, a recent report by a Reddit user via Android Authority suggests that there’s a disappointing part, as Samsung Messages appears to fully leave the RCS support in early 2025 for the Verizon Galaxy phone users, anyway.

The report of the Reddit user significantly pointed out that he received a message from Verizon carrier, clarifying that Samsung Messages will ditch the support of RCS messaging after 6th January, 2025. The message further advised switching to Google Messages for maintaining the same enhanced and robust messaging as before.

Certainly, Samsung’s decision to move towards Google Messages is not new, as the company replaced Samsung Messages as a default messaging app on the Galaxy S22 for the first time.

But simultaneously, the removal of RCS support from Samsung Messages for those Galaxy users who prefer Samsung’s messaging app over Google Messages is apparently new, as they think Google Messages is like an imperfect replacement for Samsung Messages.

At present, the Galaxy models running on Verizon will still use Samsung Messages but as a simple texting app without RCS support and have to face a lot of inconvenience when texting with other Android owners. The RCS messaging in Samsung devices offers an incredible experience, but this is going to change now.
