Samsung’s Galaxy smartwatch portfolio is among the best wearables that are integrated with a good deal of new and immersive features for an efficient user experience. Now, adding more convenience for the Galaxy audience, recent reports offer a slight hint that may allow users to control their smart TV with their Galaxy smartwatches.

According to the latest reports (thanks to Android Authority!), diving into the newest version 1.3.12.9 of the SmartThings app on Wear OS, it was noticed that a new feature named Pointer Mode has been listed in the code reference of various strings. It’s likely that this feature is exclusive to the Galaxy smartwatch lineup.

With the reference of the latest code strings, it seems like Samsung appears to be working on a new Pointer Mode function that may allow users to control their smart TV through their smartwatches using some specific air gestures. This mode will work on the basis of gestures such as wrist and finger movements.

Alternatively, demonstrated via a video, Galaxy smartwatch owners can learn how to control their TV with their watch. By performing the Shake gesture, you will simply activate the Pointer Mode; the Pinch gesture will allow users to select the channel or show; making a fist will let you go back to the previous step, while making the fist twice will take you to the home screen; pushing your wrist back and forth will perform Play/Pause; and lastly, use your wrist (as shown in the video) to control the movement of the cursor.

Moreover, the new Pointer Mode sounds similar to the gesture controls offered in the Vision Pro and Apple Watch. Since Samsung is likely to be working on bringing a functionality that allows users to control their smart TV with the Galaxy smartwatches, audiences may expect the feature to arrive in the SmartThings phone app later this year.
