One UI 7 Feature Makes Its Way to Android 16: Collapsible Notifications

Google’s Android Operating System is one of its kind, with the company always continuing to bring certain features that significantly aim to offer a more sophisticated and much improved user experience, though.
Well, for a number of aspects, Google and Samsung provide various functionalities that are more or less similar, but this time, Samsung leads the way, as reports suggest that Google seems to be introducing the ability to collapse lock screen notifications for the Android ecosystem with Android 16, which is something that is already available on Galaxy smartphones, thanks to One UI 7.
Android 16 to borrow shrinking of notifications on the lock screen from Samsung One UI 7
According to the recent reports (via Android Authority), Google appears to be working on introducing an ability that will certainly allow users to shrink their phone’s lock screen notifications with Android 16, which will just show an app icon instead of displaying the notification card along with its full content, making it more compact for a user that shows the device’s lock screen less cluttered.

This is something that Google may borrow from Samsung, as its Galaxy devices already have this capability due to the top-level customizations offered by the One UI skin. The reports revealed that with the previous Android 15 QPR2 beta 1, the hidden ability to minimize the content of notifications for the lock screen was leaked.
Specifically, it was then removed when Google released QPR2 beta 3; a new compact option is being listed under the Notifications on Lock screen settings that says that all your new notifications will get collapsed into a shelf on your lock screen. Meanwhile, in order to view the notification’s content, users need to tap on the app’s icon.
Alternatively, there’s a full list option as well, which lets users view their lock screen notifications with the entire content. Well, the notification on lock screen settings may further get the option that lets users automatically hide their notifications that have already been viewed while also adding the ability to silence notifications from the lock screen.
Moreover, currently Google is running Android 15 QPR2 beta 3 on its Pixel devices, while it will be interesting to see whether the new option to collapse notifications on the lock screen might make its way to Android 16.
